Geek Tournament's First Round to Close Soon

Congratulations are in order for ten more of our inanimate contestants who are neither capable of accepting nor appreciating said congratulations, but whom I will offer mine to anyway. They are:

  • Star Trek: the Wrath of Khan
  • Blade Runner
  • Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
  • Transformers
  • Lego
  • World of Warcraft
  • Civilization
  • Doctor Who
  • Mythbusters
  • Watchmen
I am particularly impressed by the performance of Lego, who held its opponent, the poor, unsuspecting Rubik's Cube, to a mere 2 votes. Watch out, rest of the field. They say defense wins championships.

The final ten games of the first round are now posted for your voting pleasure. They will remain up until midnight on Saturday, then the second round will begin immediately the next day.

I will remind everyone one last time that brackets must be submitted to madcap1417@gmail.com by the end of the first round in order to be eligible to win a Transformer Generation Dad t-shirt. Results will be weighted versus those who submitted a bracket prior to the start of the tournament, but you still have a chance, so why not take it? And this will be the last time I remind you. If I have to remind you again, I swear I will turn this car around.

Happy voting.

  1. I can't believe you put LOTR up against Firefly in the first round! Firefly should be way higher than 16, perhaps 2?

  2. While I am completely open to suggestions that the seeding is flawed and plan on making the selection and seeding a longer and more discriminating process next year, I will defend my decision by saying I don't think Firefly could have been higher than a six, definitely not a 2. And as far as it meeting Lord of the Rings in the first round, any contestant worthy of making it to the final four from the TV/Book bracket would have had to beat it, or something even stronger, at some point.

Also, this is the first angry comment I've received over the seeding and I have to say I'm a bit excited. Thank you for renewing my faith in the belief that people might take this tournament personally and be upset with me over it. I hope you keep reading and enjoy the regular posts and content updates that occur here. But, if the only reason you visit is to write snide comments every now and then and tell me I'm a douchebag, that is perfectly awesome too. Seriously, the only way I could be more excited about disagreeing with you is if it was over beer.

    Hooray for opinions!
